Based in the department of Climate and Ocean Geoscience within the Research School of Earth Sciences. The Research Fellow contributes to the ARC Australian Center for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS), a national-scale, university-led, international center focused on helping the world community prepare for climate risks emerging from East Antarctica and the Southern Ocean by integrating knowledge of the ocean, atmosphere, cryosphere and ecosystems, and their interplay.
ACEAS will grow to support the activities of around 150 researchers, administrative staff, and students, with exciting opportunities to collaborate across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. Further information on ACEAS is available at http://antarctic.org.au/
The Research Fellow will specifically contribute to ACEAS Research Program 3, topic 3.2 Informing risk through paleoclimate reconstructions. This project concerns sediment geochemical (calibrated scanning XRF), micropalaeontological, and stable isotope research, with an additional considerable involvement in palaeomagnetic research, on sediment core materials from (mainly) the Southern Ocean.
To excel in this role you will have:
- A PhD in Earth Sciences or a related area, with a track record of independent research in the field of (palaeo-) climatology
- Demonstrated ability to articulate and prosecute innovative research in the target field, and deliver high-quality research output
- Achievements in leading projects in the field of Palaeoclimatology
- Specific expertise in micropalaeontology, and stable isotope and core-scanning XRF analyses, with experience in ice-sheet and/or sea-level variability.
- Additional expertise in palaeomagenic proxy analysis and interpretation would be an advantage but is not essential.
